Schloss Neuschwanstein

By: Kati Tanner
“Mom! I want to go in Sleeping Beauty’s castle!” That is what you say when you are in Disneyland. Well, I went in the “real” castle today in Germany. The castle’s name was Neuschwanstein. It is a castle in the Alps. I couldn’t believe the castle was so big. Disney used this castle as a model for Sleeping Beauty’s castle in California.
This is me on the bridge with the castle in the distance.
While at the castle I learned that Bavaria’s King Ludwig started to build the castle in 1869 and had been working on it for 17 years when he died and they stopped the construction. They didn’t completely finish the inside of the castle because of his death, but it is still really cool. Now it is a big tourist attraction in Germany. To get there, we hiked straight up a big mountain, although some people took a bus.  This was the first “real” castle I’ve ever been in.  What a great day!
